Howdy! If this picture doesn't stress you out, well you are a mighty patient non stressed out person. This image totally stresses me, but in the midst of painting, this doesn't stress me at all. This is the only way I can paint. I am generally a tidy person, but my studio...another question please. This is the ONLY way I can work. I don't clean my space until I finish a painting and not even every painting. I like to build on existing colors on my palette. I like my paint to become a tacky consistency and the way that happens is to let it all sit in the open air.
I have been asked a number to times what paint I use or what I use to make my paint so thick. I can't sing enough songs to Gamblin products and customer service, they are seriously the jam. I use Gamblin's Cold Wax Medium to thicken my oil paint. The best wax medium for sure. I like to leave the lid of the wax for a few days before I use a new jar,the consistency moves from margarine to butter then to Crisco:) Crisco is the best consistency for my work. Its a pricey medium but worth it and lasts a while.
My paints. Im eclectic, I like a variety. My all time favorites are Holbein. Perfect colors, sometimes $30 a tube, but if you aren't mixing to get a specific color its worth it. I get these if i don't want to mix a color. If I'm mixing I get Winton, Windsor Newton, Blick Artists, and Blick. I rarely use a drying medium anymore. other than cold wax. I used to use Liqiun, but Im straight oil now. Oil takes time to dry, but I like the outcome with little to no medium other than wax.
So, now, Im trying to get acquainted to Austin and the art scene. I have some things happening. There is an event coming up next weekend that I am so excited about. Our church All Saints is putting on a weekend event next weekend that my work will be displayed at http://allsaintsaustin.org/cross-culture-series. I can wait to hear the lectures at this event, If you are in the ATX region, come see my work Saturday February 7 @ Austin Oaks, my work will be there for a month.
I have some other exciting ventures happening this month that I will talk about soon. Happy Weekend!
